The Catholic Sobriety Podcast
Welcome to The Catholic Sobriety Podcast. I'm Christie Walker — Catholic sobriety coach, content creator, and woman who has lived alcohol free for nearly 30 years.
This podcast is for the Catholic woman who is disciplined, faithful, and quietly negotiating with a glass of wine every night. You don't think you're an alcoholic.
You're not sure there's even a "problem." But something in you knows this habit is costing you more than you're willing to admit — and that the gap between who you are in Christ and who you are at 9pm is getting harder to ignore.
We go deep here. Faith, neuroscience, identity, inner healing. Because what looks like a drinking habit is almost always something bigger — and God is usually in the middle of it, waiting.

Introducing the Catholic Sobriety Podcast
Speaker 1Welcome to the Catholic Sobriety podcast , the go-to resource for women seeking to have a deeper understanding of the role alcohol plays in their lives , women who are looking to drink less or not at all for any reason . I am your host , christy Walker . I'm a wife , mom and a joy-filled Catholic , and I am the Catholic Sobriety coach , and I am so glad you're here . Hello and welcome friends . So today I want to talk about something that I don't know you may have noticed , or maybe you didn't and that is the fact that I have changed my podcast's name from rescued and redeemed to the Catholic Sobriety podcast , and I'll tell you a little bit about why I did that in a little bit . But I just want to let you know that some of this is gonna be kind of confusing at first , because I still have some of the artwork from rescued and redeemed . I still have episodes that I need to go in and change the intros and atros . There's a lot of work that goes into changing a podcast . I mean , google hasn't even reset it yet . All the other podcast apps have reset it already so that it has my new artwork , my new podcast name and my new description , but Google , for whatever reason , as of this recording hasn't done it , but I'm emailing them and I know that they'll do it because they're rock stars over there . So , anyway , it's gonna be a little confusing while I transition , but I feel very strongly about the fact that I am being called to reach even more women and the name rescued and redeemed while it does , I love it and it does describe my journey . This podcast is really geared toward women who are looking to drink less or not at all for any reason , and also women who are in recovery , looking to clear up the mental mess that sticks around long after our last drink . So if it were just a podcast about women in recovery sharing their stories , then rescued and redeemed would continue to be the proper name for it . But I feel like women who are looking for answers , for tools for hope and encouragement you know those types of things are going to be looking for a podcast dealing with sobriety and specifically there's a lot of sobriety podcasts out there that you have many , many choices , but this is the Catholic sobriety podcast . So everything that I talk about on here even if it isn't , you know , specifically Catholic or having to do with Catholic doctrine it's all through my lens as a Catholic woman , and so we deal with matters of faith here . Of course , if you're not Catholic , you're so welcome . I love you and I'm so happy you're here . So , honestly , any , any woman can benefit from this . I listen to podcasts that are not Christian in nature , and you know I can glean a lot of information from those as well . So everyone's welcome , and I just wanted to let you know why I wanted to change it .
Speaker 1Now , why sobriety ? The word sobriety can have a little bit of stigma to it , so sometimes people assume that if you say I'm sober , that that means that you had an addiction , right . So people don't generally go around saying that , especially if they've decided to drink less or not at all for , like , health reasons , or it just was starting to become a habit that they wanted to kind of nip in the bud before it actually became a bigger issue , and so , yeah , there can be some stigma around that , but I want to set your mind at ease and let you know that sobriety first of all , you don't have to walk around saying that you're sober . You can just say , no , thank you , I don't drink , or no , thank you , not tonight . The thing with sobriety is it doesn't just mean completely abstaining from alcohol or any substance . That isn't good for you . It also is being tempered in our use of that substance . So being temperate or moderate in the use of alcohol , and that works for some people . So I just want you to know that there's a big spectrum of people who are looking to get curious about their drinking habits , looking to get curious about the role that alcohol plays in their lives and wanting to really think about what are the ways that alcohol is serving me and what is it adding to my life , and then also taking a look and seeing what , in what ways , is maybe it not serving me ? So I think that that's always a really good thing to think about , not just with alcohol , but other things phone use , food and those types of things .
Speaker 1So I want you to know what you can expect here . It's going to be a lot of the same . I'm going to still bring on amazing guests . I'm still going to come on here and hopefully more regularly that's what I'm committing to at least a podcast week where I come on and give you some tips or tools , information , share stories and other things just to kind of help you get clarity and confidence around your drinking . I am a Catholic sobriety coach and so that's what I do . So I'm trying to kind of bring some of that coaching element into this podcast as well so that it will be helpful for you if you are on your journey to drink less or not at all .
Speaker 1So if you are curious about the difference between sobriety and recovery , I do have a podcast episode you can go back and listen to that where I describe how you can have sobriety without recovery , but not recovery without sobriety . So I go into that in depth . But , in short , you can be a sober person , have sobriety , not drink , or be moderate or temperate in your drinking , and not be a person in recovery . Recovery is for those who have an addiction and they are recovering from that addiction , and you do need sobriety to be in recovery . Now , are there slips ? Yes , sometimes . Are there relapses ? Yes , sometimes . But the thing is we always learn and nothing is wasted and we just grow from our experiences . So there's no shame as long as we're learning and moving forward .
Speaker 1So this is a short episode , but also , if you want more information about what the Catholic sobriety podcast is all about , go back and listen to my trailer . I did redo my trailer , so that's up to date and slowly but surely I will work my way through my other episodes and get those intros and outros changed and my artwork . It's just going to take a little bit , but you know that I am serious about this and that it means a lot to me to do this because I'll put in the work . It's not like I have like 500 episodes that I have to worry about . It's just I don't even know how many episodes I have right now like 15 . So it won't take me too long .
Gratitude for Podcast Audience and Impact
Speaker 1I just thank you guys so much for being here , for being with me , for taking time to listen . You know my audience is growing , my show is growing and it just gives me the encouragement that I need to keep producing this podcast , because I hear from some of you how it has changed your life . I have women that reach out to me to pursue coaching , and so you know I know that this is striking a chord with many , many women and you know I just thank you so much for being here and I just want the Lord to use this in the way that he sees fit and touch those lives that he wants to touch . So y'all are awesome and I will just talk to you on the next episode . So just remember , I am here for you , I am praying for you . You are not alone . Please rate , review and subscribe and share this Talk to you later .
